A cart can appear to exceed a coupon's minimum spend and still fail to qualify. The reason is often that the offer uses an eligible subtotal rather than every dollar shown on the screen. Shipping, tax, gift cards, excluded brands, or already-discounted products may be outside that calculation, depending on the terms.

Start by locating the exact minimum-spend wording. Then identify which items count. Do not repeatedly add products before understanding the rule; that can create a larger order without solving the eligibility issue.

Rebuild the qualifying amount

Imagine a hypothetical offer for $10 off an eligible $60 purchase. Your cart contains a $45 eligible shirt and a $20 excluded accessory. The merchandise total is $65, but only $45 qualifies. The threshold has not been reached.

Now imagine that a separate permitted discount reduces a $65 eligible basket to $58 before the minimum is assessed. If the offer uses the post-discount subtotal, it may no longer apply. If it uses the original subtotal, the result could differ. The offer's actual wording and checkout determine which case you have.

Keep the calculation separate from tax and delivery unless the terms explicitly include them. A final total above the threshold does not establish that the merchandise requirement has been met.

Check restrictions beyond spending

An offer may also be limited to certain accounts, first purchases, regions, dates, or sales channels. A valid subtotal does not override those conditions. Confirm that the code is intended for your account and the store version you are using.

Look for a maximum discount, excluded product type, or rule against combining codes. If the checkout gives a specific error, use it to narrow the issue rather than entering the same code repeatedly.

Do not change personal information or misrepresent eligibility to obtain an offer. If the terms are unclear, ask the retailer to explain which item prevents qualification.

Decide whether the remaining gap is worth filling

Once you know the eligible shortfall, compare the extra purchase with the discount gained. Spending $18 on something unwanted to obtain $10 off increases your outlay by $8 before any other changes. A necessary item may make the combined order sensible, but the threshold alone is not a reason to buy it.

Review the final cart after applying the code. Confirm the discount, shipping charge, quantities, and selected sizes. A minimum-spend offer is useful only when it reduces the cost of a purchase that still makes sense after its conditions are understood.
